Sound Therapy Part 2 | Tuning Fork Therapy

Tuning forks have been used for holistic healing for centuries because they work with our cells. That may sound strange, but sound healing is beneficial to overall wellness due to the frequencies emitted by tuning forks and other sound therapy devices. In tuning fork therapy, weighted forks are used on the body creating a powerful healing vibration. Tuning fork therapy takes a restorative and relaxing approach to healing by working with the nervous system, muscle tissues, Qi, chakras, and other body energies.

How does tuning fork therapy work?

Tuning forks are calibrated very carefully to frequencies within the Pythagorean scale or planetary frequencies caused by the orbital rotation of Earth. Tuning forks work at an intracellular level of healing.

As we mentioned in Part 1 of the Sound Healing Series, different frequencies encourage different brain wave states in our bodies, including ordinary beta state (normal waking consciousness), alpha state (relaxed consciousness), theta state (meditative), and delta state (sleep and internal healing).

When we shift between these states, our bodies releases nitric oxide and oxytocin.

Types of tuning fork therapy

Tuning forks without weights

These are the tuning forks we are most familiar with, perhaps something you saw in middle school band class or at your audiologist's office. When used for tuning musical instruments or testing hearing types, they are tools of productivity. However, when used in sound therapy, they become tools of healing. When used therapeutically, they encourage a feeling of oneness and positive energy through the body, mind, and soul. Unweighted forks work in the etheric field and create a soundscape. You do not physically feel these vibrations in your body.

Weighted tuning forks

Tuning forks can be weighted with circular discs, which work in tandem with acupuncture pathways. The weighted forks go on the body or can be heard near the ears. Tuning forks therapists apply specific vibrations to specific body parts to help with Qi (vital energy), relaxation, and balance of emotions. Using sound healing and acupuncture practice, tuning forks with weights helps support overall balance and wellness.
